How is LeBron ring chasing when the only reason Miami is a contender is because they have LeBron?

I agree. What bothers me is we have been at this point before and management breaks up a promising team. I won't go over the many bad moves they have made. Let's let Alvin Gentry continue to develop this team by adding and subtracting on the margins and keeping the core together. We have the makings of a contending team if they can be paitent. Lopez and Dragic have big upsides. Dudley might get better. Frye needs much better improvement on defense and playing with his back to the basket. Amare has almost reached the level he was at during his 25 point a game season. Now he is hitting the boards and playing defense when he has to. The key is keeping the supporting players here and happy. A lot rides on being able to keep the top players in the off season. To me Frye is most likely to leave. Not sure we will pay him what he can get elsewhere. This team has begun to get pretty exciting, but will Nash be around long enough to see them make a real run.

Jeff: Cannot not add anything that would differ from your assessment. I think I might add the development of Dragic may have also played in this resurgence.

There is no better option for Amare. Pay him his money if you want the remaining fans to keep their seats. Trade Amare for a nobody and the fans will say bye bye, including me.

Okay, the Suns will trade Amare today or tomorrow. They will take whatever they can get because something is better then nothing. The fans will be very unhappy because getting rid of Amare is the team throwing in the towell on this season. The Suns slip from the playoff picture. Earl Clark steps into Amare's position and averages 30 ppg. Then the Suns trade him to Sacramento for a third round draft choice. The fans trade Steve Kerr for Brian Colangelo and Robert Sarver for Michael Jordan. Jordan pays Sarver 50 million for the team since that is all it's worth now. We all wake up on Friday and Amare is still with the Suns.

Comment on Stoudemire for Iguodala, Dalembert Rumor Makes Little Sense by rob scott

total agreement, dave. i can't believe this rumor - makes no sense from a financial standpoint or for the future of the franchise. i believe the suns want to win now - or at least in the near future (within the context of nash's current contract). won't happen.
i can't see the suns making a stoudamire move before the trade deadline on the 18th - they're not desperate, and they want to get good return. but consider this - after the season, if the raptors miss the playoffs (as expected), expect brian colangelo to move chris bosh. the suns may push stoudamire - and may have to sweeten the deal. imagine bosh in this lineup - a team guy, daily double/double. if the suns can keep their core intact and add a guy like that - he can defend pau gasol, tim duncan without help - improving the suns team defense. they can compete in the western conference instantly. intriguing?

Comment on Possible Opt-in by Amare No Different for Suns by Jeff D

I'm an Amare supporter, just read my past blog posts. However in my opinion, the only certain max players right now are LeBron, Kobe, Wade, and Paul. But that should not be an insult to Amare. If he is offered $17 million for 5 years by the Suns, that would be a great offer. However, if he demands $19-$20 million from the Suns, they shouldn't be insulted by that either. Hopefully both sides can agree to something in the middle.

If you look at current max and near-max players, there is a lot of dead wood: McGrady, Jermaine O'Neal, Rashard Lewis, Redd, Kirilenko, Kenyon Martin, Stojakovic, Larry Hughes. These massive contracts can hamstring a team's ability to load up with the role players needed to contend.

If Amare really wants to play for a contender that is not in a huge market like LA, New York, Chicago, or Boston, he really should be willing to take a couple million less per season so that the team has money to spend on the supporting cast. That extra money could be spent on a defensive wing or back up big man that might make the difference in the Suns being a future 1st round casualty or making a deep run in the playoffs.

If Amare is not a max salary player, who is? If only LeBron or Kobe or ? are max salary players then there must be quite a few undeserving players on max contracts. I have tried to figure out who on a players value basis is the equal of Amare, and I am having trouble figuringj it out. Bosh is not an improvement, and why is Toronto shopping him around. I thought they were trying to build around him. Some players have Amare potential but there is no guarantee they will reach his level. I don't think many are giving Amare credit for the injuries he has overcome. I doubt there are many of us who would be able to go through the rehab he has gone through. His lack of aggression in the early season could well be explained by an unsureness on his part based on getting used to his goggles and the chance for another. I think his recent performances would indicate his approaching the level he was at before his knee injury. His trade would indicate the Suns had thrown in the towell, and would have double crossed players like Grant Hill. They are rolling again as they were in the early season, but this may be more sustainable because the changes in the lineup give the Suns a greater inside presence, relieves Amare of taking on opponents big inner guy and allows him to crash the boards and crash the basket on offense. Doesn't management owe it to the season ticket holders to go for it at least this one last time as the team seems to have come together with an unexpected group of players. As long as Sarver is not going to lose money, and it is hard to believe that many basketball teams would lose money with their TV deals.

Jeff: I totally agree with your thoughts. Johnson has turned into a very selfish ballplayer. How much money is enough would a statement to Johnson. A good example of enough is enough would be Grant Hill who we are fortunate to have on our team. He is not only a great player, much like Kurt Warner, but a great character guy, and who would we rather have on our team, Johnson or Hill. Not a hard choice for Suns fans. Grant took a lot less money to stay in Phoenix. It would be nice if Stoudemire would follow his example.
